Sprint

  • Cardio
  • Hybrid race

A sprint warms up into a tall stance or a forward lean, then accelerates hard as you drive your knees and arms toward top speed. Running at full effort loads the quads, hamstrings and glutes through fast, high-impact strides. Intermediate exercisers use it at home or in a hybrid race, logged by distance as a finisher or a main effort.

How to

  1. Warm up thoroughly, then set up tall or in a lean.
  2. Accelerate hard, driving your knees and arms.
  3. Reach top speed with a tall posture and quick cadence.
  4. Run the planned distance at full effort, then recover.

Form cues

  • Land each stride under your hips, not ahead.
  • Keep your elbows bent near ninety degrees.
  • Relax your jaw and shoulders at top speed.

Common mistakes

  • Overstriding lands each foot too far ahead. Land your foot directly under your hips.
  • Shoulders tense up and rise toward the ears. Keep your shoulders relaxed and driving straight back.
  • Effort fades before reaching the finish. Hold your posture tall through the whole distance.
