Wall Push-up
- Beginner
- Home
The wall push-up presses your bodyweight away from a wall instead of the floor, hands at chest height and your body held in one straight line. Standing at an incline lowers the load on the chest, front delts and triceps compared with a floor push-up. Beginners use it at home for reps, as a main move or a finisher, or as a stepping point toward the standard push-up.

How to
- Stand an arm's length from the wall, palms on it at chest height.
- Keep your body in one straight line.
- Bend your elbows to bring your chest toward the wall.
- Press back to straight arms.
Form cues
- Spread your fingers to steady your wrists on the wall.
- Keep your heels flat and feet still on the floor.
- Exhale as you press back to straight arms.
Common mistakes
- Hips sag or pike instead of staying level. Brace your core so hips stay level with shoulders.
- Hands sit too high above shoulder height. Set your palms level with your chest, not higher.
- Wrists bend back sharply under the press. Keep your wrists stacked under your palms, fingers spread.
