The Hundred
- Beginner
- Pilates
The Hundred lies you on your back, shoulders lifted and legs in tabletop or extended, arms reaching long by your sides. Small, steady arm pumps pair with a five-count breath pattern to isolate the abs. Beginners use it in Pilates as a warmup, cooldown or recovery flow, held for time.

How to
- Lie on your back, legs in tabletop or extended, shoulders lifted.
- Reach your arms long by your sides.
- Pump your arms up and down in small beats.
- Inhale for five beats, exhale for five, and continue.
Form cues
- Keep your ribs knitted down, not flared up.
- Pump from your shoulders, not your wrists.
- Keep your gaze on your knees or the ceiling.
Common mistakes
- Neck strains to hold the head up. Lift from your chest, not your chin.
- Lower back lifts off the mat. Lower your legs only as far as control allows.
- Breathing stops or gets held. Keep the breath moving in the five-count pattern.
