The Turkish get-up moves you from lying on your back to standing while you hold a kettlebell locked out overhead throughout. Each phase, rolling to the elbow, to the hand, through a lunge, and up, trains the abs, front delts and glutes as stabilizers under load. Advanced lifters use it in the gym or in functional training, loaded for weight and reps as a main lift or a finisher.

How to
- Lie on your back holding the kettlebell up on a straight arm.
- Roll to your elbow, then your hand, eyes on the bell.
- Sweep your leg under, lunge, and stand up tall.
- Reverse each step back down with control.
Form cues
- Press your free hand flat into the floor for support.
- Move through each transition slowly and with control.
- Keep your ribs pulled down so your lower back stays braced.
Common mistakes
- Elbow bends as the arm loses lockout. Keep your arm locked straight from shoulder to wrist.
- The transition to elbow happens too quickly. Slow down and roll onto your elbow with control.
- Hips drop during the lunge to standing. Drive through your front heel to stand tall.
