Sit to Stand
- Beginner
- Home
Sit to stand starts on a bench with your feet flat and hip-width apart, then rises to standing using only your legs, no push from your hands. Working the whole movement without hand support trains the quads and glutes the way getting out of a chair does in daily life. Beginners use it at home for reps, as a main exercise or a finisher.

How to
- Sit on the bench with your feet hip-width, flat on the floor.
- Lean slightly forward and stand up without using your hands.
- Stand fully tall at the top.
- Sit back down slowly with control.
Form cues
- Lean your chest forward before you push up.
- Press evenly through your whole foot to rise.
- Lower yourself slowly instead of dropping down.
Common mistakes
- Hands push off the knees or bench. Keep your hands off your knees and thighs.
- Knees cave inward when standing up. Push your knees out in line with your feet.
- Torso stays hunched instead of standing tall. Straighten your hips fully at the top.
