V-up

The V-up lifts your legs and torso off the floor at the same time, folding your body into a V shape with your hands reaching toward your feet. The simultaneous lift trains the abs through a longer range than a standard crunch. Intermediate lifters use it for reps at home or in functional training, as a main move or a finisher.

How to

  1. Lie flat with your arms extended overhead.
  2. Lift your legs and torso together in one motion.
  3. Touch your hands toward your feet at the top.
  4. Lower back down with control and repeat.

Form cues

  • Exhale sharply as your torso and legs meet.
  • Keep your legs straight throughout the whole movement.
  • Press your lower back flat before starting the next rep.

Common mistakes

  • Knees bend to fake a longer reach. Keep your legs straight and reach past your feet.
  • You swing your arms for momentum. Lift with your abs, not with momentum.
  • Legs and torso rise at different times. Lift both halves together in one motion.
