Standing Torso Twist
- Beginner
- Home
- Mobility
The standing torso twist rotates your upper body from side to side while you stand tall, arms bent loosely across your chest. It trains the obliques through a controlled rotation rather than a loaded twist. Beginners use it at home or in mobility work, logged for reps as a warmup or a finisher.

How to
- Stand with your feet hip-width, arms bent at your chest.
- Rotate your torso side to side with control.
- Let your arms swing naturally with the twist.
- Keep your hips mostly forward, spine tall.
Form cues
- Exhale sharply with each turn you make.
- Keep your feet planted flat through every turn.
- Feel the rotation move through your waist, not your shoulders.
Common mistakes
- Hips swing along with the twist. Keep your hips facing forward the whole time.
- The twist speeds up into a bounce. Slow down and rotate with steady control.
- Knees lock straight during the rotation. Keep a soft bend in both knees.
