Neck Side Stretch
- Beginner
- Mobility
The neck side stretch tilts your ear toward your shoulder while sitting or standing tall, optionally adding light hand pressure to deepen the stretch. It lengthens the traps on the stretched side without any equipment. Beginners use it as a warmup, a cooldown or a recovery flow, held for time on each side.

How to
- Sit or stand tall, shoulders relaxed.
- Tilt one ear toward the same-side shoulder.
- Add gentle pressure with your hand if comfortable.
- Hold and breathe, then switch sides.
Form cues
- Keep your opposite shoulder pulled down and back.
- Look straight ahead instead of turning your head.
- Breathe slowly and let the stretch settle in.
Common mistakes
- The hand pulls the head too hard. Add pressure gently, never forcing the tilt.
- Head rotates instead of tilting sideways. Keep your face forward as you tilt.
- Opposite shoulder creeps up toward the ear. Press that shoulder down and away.
