Kettlebell Front Squat

The kettlebell front squat racks one or two kettlebells at your chest with your elbows in, feet set at shoulder width and toes turned slightly out. Squatting down while keeping your torso upright trains the quads, glutes and abs against the front-loaded weight. Intermediate lifters use it in the gym or functional training for weight and reps in circuits or strength sets.

How to

  1. Rack one or two kettlebells at your chest, elbows in.
  2. Set your feet shoulder-width, toes slightly out.
  3. Squat down keeping your torso upright.
  4. Drive through your whole foot back to standing.

Form cues

  • Keep your elbows lifted so the bells stay racked.
  • Look straight ahead, not down at the floor.
  • Inhale at the top, exhale as you stand.

Common mistakes

  • Elbows drop and the bells roll forward. Lift your elbows to keep the bells racked.
  • Knees cave inward at the bottom of the squat. Push your knees out over your toes.
  • Heels lift off the floor as you descend. Root your whole foot down through the squat.
