The handstand push-up presses your bodyweight straight overhead from an inverted position, heels resting against the wall and hands shoulder-width apart. It loads the front and side delts and triceps through a full vertical range under load. Advanced trainees use it at home, in calisthenics or functional training, mainly as a main lift, occasionally as a finisher.

How to
- Kick up into a handstand with your heels on the wall.
- Keep your body tight, hands shoulder-width.
- Lower your head to the floor under control.
- Press back up to straight arms.
Form cues
- Spread your fingers wide to steady your wrists.
- Keep your ribs pulled down, not flared open.
- Exhale hard as you press back to the top.
Common mistakes
- Elbows flare out to the sides. Point your elbows back, not out wide.
- Lower back arches away from the wall. Keep your ribs and hips stacked in line.
- Head drops too fast near the floor. Control the last few inches to the floor.
