Broad Jump

The broad jump swings your arms back then forward as you jump from standing for as much distance as you can cover. It trains the quads, glutes and hamstrings as one explosive horizontal effort rather than a vertical one. Use it at home or in functional training, for reps as a main lift or a finisher.

How to
- Stand with your feet hip-width, arms back, hips loaded.
- Swing your arms forward and jump as far as you can.
- Land softly on both feet, knees tracking over toes.
- Stand tall, reset, and repeat.
Form cues
- Exhale explosively as you leave the ground.
- Keep your chest up instead of leaning forward.
- Look slightly ahead instead of down at your feet.
Common mistakes
- Feet land one after the other. Land on both feet at the same time.
- Knees cave inward on landing. Push your knees out over your toes.
- Next jump starts before you reset. Pause and reset your stance between jumps.
