Warrior II
- Beginner
- Yoga
Warrior II is a standing yoga pose held in a wide lunge stance, front knee bent over the ankle and arms stretched out over both legs. Holding the position loads the quads and adductors through a static stretch rather than movement. Beginners use it as a warmup, a cooldown or recovery flow, held for time on each side.

How to
- Take a wide stance, front toes forward, back foot parallel.
- Bend your front knee over the ankle.
- Stretch your arms out over both legs, gaze forward.
- Sink into the stance and hold, then switch sides.
Form cues
- Keep your hips facing the side, not the front leg.
- Root down evenly through both feet.
- Breathe slowly and let your shoulders soften down.
Common mistakes
- Front knee drifts inward past the toes. Line the knee up with your second toe.
- Torso leans forward over the front leg. Stack your ribs directly over your hips.
- Back foot turns forward, losing the hip line. Keep your back foot turned out to the side.
