The suitcase carry has you walk while holding a kettlebell in just one hand at your side, keeping your torso upright against its pull. It trains the obliques, forearms and traps together through the carry. It suits the gym, home training or hybrid race prep, carried for distance on each side.

How to

  1. Deadlift the weight to standing at one side.
  2. Stand tall; do not lean toward the weight.
  3. Walk with short, controlled steps, core braced.
  4. Carry the full distance, then switch hands.

Form cues

  • Keep your free hand relaxed instead of counterbalancing.
  • Breathe steadily through your nose as you walk.
  • Feel your waist on the loaded side working to stay upright.

Common mistakes

  • Torso tips toward the weight. Keep your ribcage stacked directly over your hips.
  • Shoulder on the loaded side creeps up. Pull that shoulder down and back.
  • Steps get long and hips sway side to side. Take shorter steps and keep your hips level.
