Standing Leg Curl (Machine)
- Pro
- Beginner
- Gym
The standing leg curl hooks a pad behind one ankle while you hold the machine frame and keep your thigh vertical, then curl your heel toward your glute. It isolates the hamstrings one leg at a time. Beginners use it in the gym for weight and reps, working each leg before switching.

How to
- Stand at the machine with the pad behind one ankle.
- Hold the frame and keep your thigh vertical.
- Curl your heel toward your glute.
- Lower slowly; finish the set, then switch legs.
Form cues
- Keep your hips square, not twisting sideways.
- Pause and squeeze hard at the top of the curl.
- Keep your standing leg slightly bent for balance.
Common mistakes
- Hips swing to help the heel curl. Keep your hips still and let the hamstring work.
- Thigh drifts forward away from the pad. Keep your thigh pressed vertical against the frame.
- Weight drops fast on the way down. Lower the pad slowly under control.
