Incline Push-up
- Beginner
- Home
The incline push-up presses your bodyweight up with your hands on a bench or box instead of the floor, so gravity pulls less directly through your chest, front delts and triceps. It trains the same horizontal press as a full push-up but with less load, since more of your bodyweight shifts to your legs. Beginners use it at home to build pressing strength before moving to the floor.

How to
- Place your hands on a bench or raised surface.
- Set your body in one straight line.
- Lower your chest to the edge with control.
- Press back up to straight arms.
Form cues
- Press the bench away, not just down.
- Squeeze your glutes so your hips stay level.
- Exhale as you push back up to the top.
Common mistakes
- Hips sag below the shoulder line. Brace your core and keep your hips level.
- Wrists bend back sharply at the bottom. Keep your wrists stacked directly under your shoulders.
- Surface picked too low makes it too hard. Pick a higher bench to keep good form.
