Eight-Angle Pose

- Yoga
Eight-angle pose hooks one leg high over the same-side shoulder, crosses your ankles, then presses through your hands to lift your hips off the floor with your legs extended to the side. Holding the position loads the abs, triceps and obliques as a strength-based arm balance rather than a passive stretch. Advanced practitioners hold it for time on each side as a warmup, cooldown or recovery flow.

How to
- Sit and hook one leg high over the same-side shoulder.
- Plant your hands and cross your ankles together.
- Lean forward, bend your elbows, and lift your hips off the floor.
- Extend your legs to the side, hold, then switch sides.
Form cues
- Press the floor away to straighten your arms.
- Keep your gaze forward, not down at the floor.
- Breathe steadily instead of holding your breath.
Common mistakes
- Hips sink back down toward the floor. Press hands down hard to keep hips lifted.
- Shoulders hike up toward the ears. Draw your shoulders down away from your ears.
- Legs bend instead of extending fully. Straighten both knees once your hips clear the floor.
