GHD Sit-up

The GHD sit-up locks your feet and hips on the machine's pad, then lowers your torso back and reaches overhead before snapping back up to vertical. The extended range trains the abs and hip flexors through more motion than a floor sit-up allows. Advanced lifters use it in the gym or functional training as a main lift or a finisher, for reps.

How to
- Sit in the GHD with your feet secured, hips just off the pad.
- Lower your torso back and reach overhead.
- Touch the floor or target behind you if mobility allows.
- Snap back up to vertical using your abs and hip flexors.
Form cues
- Exhale sharply as you snap back up.
- Keep your arms reaching overhead, not tucked to your chest.
- Move at a controlled pace, not in freefall.
Common mistakes
- Torso free-falls back without control. Lower yourself at a steady, controlled pace.
- Lower back overextends at the bottom. Stop the descent once you reach a flat line.
- Head and neck lead the way back up. Drive the movement from your abs, not your neck.
