Chest Stretch (Doorway)

  • Beginner
  • Mobility

The doorway chest stretch has you brace one forearm against a door frame at shoulder height, then step forward and turn your chest away from the frame. It opens the chest and front delts on that side through a static hold. Beginners use it as a warmup, cooldown or recovery flow, holding for time on each side.

How to

  1. Stand in a doorway with your forearm on the frame, elbow at shoulder height.
  2. Step forward gently with the same-side foot.
  3. Turn your chest away until you feel the stretch.
  4. Hold and breathe, then switch sides.

Form cues

  • Keep your ribs down, not flared forward.
  • Keep your back foot planted and stable.
  • Relax your free arm down by your side.

Common mistakes

  • Shoulder shrugs up toward the ear. Keep your shoulder pulled down and relaxed.
  • Torso rotates too far past the frame. Rotate only until your chest opens gently.
  • Hips shift forward past the front foot. Keep your hips stacked over your feet.
