Archer Push-up

The archer push-up widens your hand position and shifts your chest toward one straight arm while the other bears the load, alternating sides each rep. It builds the chest, triceps and front delts through a deeper single-arm press than a standard push-up. It is an advanced calisthenics move best trained at home once you have full pressing strength.

How to
- Set up in a wide push-up position, hands well outside shoulders.
- Lower your chest toward one hand while the other arm stays straight.
- Press back up through the bent arm, keeping your body in one line.
- Alternate sides rep by rep.
Form cues
- Keep your hips square instead of twisting open.
- Spread your fingers wide to steady the press.
- Lower on a slow count, then drive up faster.
Common mistakes
- Hips rotate open toward the working side. Brace your core and keep both hips facing down.
- Straight arm bends before the rep finishes. Keep the straight arm locked until you switch sides.
- Wrists bend sharply under the shifted load. Turn your fingers out slightly to ease the wrist angle.
