Shoulder Pass-Through

  • Beginner
  • Mobility
  • Gym

Holding a resistance band wide in front of your thighs, you raise it straight overhead and continue behind your back as far as your shoulders allow, then reverse the arc back to the front. The movement takes the front delts and upper back through their full overhead range without adding resistance. Beginners use it for reps as a warmup or cooldown drill in mobility work or before a gym session.

How to

  1. Hold the band wide in front of your thighs with straight arms.
  2. Keep tension as you raise the band up and over your head.
  3. Continue behind your back as far as your shoulders allow.
  4. Reverse the path back to the front in one smooth arc.

Form cues

  • Move slowly and keep the band taut throughout.
  • Keep your ribs down instead of arching your back.
  • Breathe out as the band passes overhead.

Common mistakes

  • Grip is too narrow to complete the arc. Widen your hands until the band clears your head easily.
  • Lower back arches to force the band past. Stop where your shoulders allow and keep ribs down.
  • Movement is fast and jerky through the range. Slow down and move the band at one steady pace.
