Seated Calf Raise
- Pro

- Gym
The seated calf raise has you sit with pads locked over your thighs and the balls of your feet on a raised step, letting your heels drop before rising onto your toes. It isolates the calves through that heel lift. Beginners use it in the gym for weight and reps, as a main lift or a finisher.

How to
- Sit with the pads on your thighs, balls of feet on the step.
- Let your heels drop into a full stretch.
- Press up onto your toes as high as you can.
- Lower slowly back into the stretch.
Form cues
- Press your thighs up firmly against the pads.
- Spread your toes wide as you rise.
- Hold briefly at the very top of the rise.
Common mistakes
- Hips lift to help drive the raise. Keep your hips down and isolate the movement to your ankles.
- Ankles roll outward under the load. Keep your ankles stacked straight under your knees.
- The stretch at the bottom gets skipped. Let your heels drop fully before rising again.
