Reverse Crunch
- Beginner
- Home
The reverse crunch is a bodyweight abs exercise performed lying on your back, driving the movement from your hips and lower body rather than your shoulders. It isolates the abs through a controlled curling motion, with no equipment needed. Beginners use it at home for reps, as a warmup, a main move, or a finisher in a circuit.

How to
- Lie on your back with knees in tabletop, hands by your sides.
- Curl your hips off the floor, knees toward your chest.
- Squeeze your lower abs at the top.
- Lower your hips slowly without arching your back.
Form cues
- Press your palms flat against the floor.
- Exhale sharply as your hips lift up.
- Keep your head and shoulders relaxed on the floor.
Common mistakes
- Momentum swings the legs instead of the abs. Slow down and lift with control.
- Lower back arches as the hips drop. Lower down slowly and keep your spine neutral.
- Hip flexors take over instead of the abs. Keep your knees fixed and move only your pelvis.
