Plank Shoulder Taps
- Beginner
- Home
Plank shoulder taps hold a high plank on your hands while one hand lifts at a time to tap the opposite shoulder. The reach under load trains the abs and front delts against unwanted rotation. Beginners use it at home for reps, as a warmup, a main move or a finisher.

How to
- Start in a high plank with your feet slightly wide.
- Tap one hand to the opposite shoulder.
- Keep your hips level; no rocking.
- Alternate sides in a steady rhythm.
Form cues
- Press your supporting hand flat into the floor.
- Keep your eyes down, not on your hand.
- Exhale sharply each time you reach across.
Common mistakes
- Hips twist toward the lifting arm's side. Squeeze your glutes and brace your abs tight.
- Wrist bends back hard under the support hand. Spread your fingers wide to share the load.
- Hips pike upward to cheat the reach. Press your hips back down to a flat line.
