Heel Touches

  • Beginner
  • Home

Heel touches lie you on your back with knees bent, shoulders lifted slightly off the floor as you reach one hand toward the same-side heel. Bending side to side isolates the obliques alongside the abs. Beginners use it at home for reps, as a warmup, main lift or finisher.

How to

  1. Lie on your back with knees bent, feet flat.
  2. Lift your shoulders slightly off the floor.
  3. Reach one hand toward the same-side heel, bending sideways.
  4. Alternate sides in a steady rhythm.

Form cues

  • Keep your lower back pressed into the floor.
  • Reach with your fingertips, not your whole arm.
  • Exhale sharply on each side crunch.

Common mistakes

  • Shoulders sink back to the floor between reps. Keep your shoulders lifted for the whole set.
  • Chin juts forward to help you reach. Keep your chin tucked, not pushing forward.
  • Hips rock side to side with the reach. Keep your hips still and let the ribs turn.
