Hamstring Stretch
- Beginner
- Mobility
The hamstring stretch sets one heel on the floor or a low step, leg straight, while you hinge at the hips with a flat back. Folding forward lengthens the hamstrings on that leg without any equipment. Beginners use it as a warmup, cooldown or recovery flow, held for time on each side.

How to
- Place one heel forward on the floor or a low step, leg straight.
- Hinge at the hips with a flat back.
- Fold gently over the straight leg until you feel the stretch.
- Hold and breathe, then switch legs.
Form cues
- Feel the stretch along the back of your thigh.
- Flex your front foot to deepen the stretch.
- Relax your shoulders and jaw as you hold.
Common mistakes
- Back rounds instead of staying flat. Hinge from your hips with a long spine.
- Front knee bends, easing the stretch. Keep the front leg straight but not locked.
- Bouncing forces the fold too far. Ease into the fold slowly and hold still.
