The triceps kickback hinges you forward with a flat back, upper arms pinned to your sides, then extends your forearms straight back until your arms lock out. It isolates the triceps at full extension, a different angle than a pressing or overhead movement. Beginners use it at home or in the gym for weight and reps, as a main lift or a finisher.

How to
- Hinge forward with a flat back, upper arms along your sides.
- Keep your elbows high and still.
- Extend your forearms straight back until your arms are straight.
- Squeeze your triceps, then return slowly.
Form cues
- Keep your upper arms still, only forearms moving.
- Squeeze hard for a full second at the top.
- Exhale as you extend your arms back.
Common mistakes
- Upper arm drops as the forearm extends. Pin your upper arm to your side.
- Extension stops short of a straight arm. Extend until your arm is fully straight.
- Back rounds during the hinge. Keep your back flat and chest lifted.
