Reverse Wrist Curl

- Gym
The reverse wrist curl loads the forearms with a barbell, working the muscles on top of the forearm instead of the underside. It isolates the wrist extensors, away from the stronger grip muscles. Beginners use it in the gym for weight and reps, as a main lift or a finisher.

How to
- Sit with your forearms on your thighs or a bench, palms down.
- Hold the bar with your wrists past your knees.
- Raise the backs of your hands up as high as they go.
- Lower slowly, keeping your forearms still.
Form cues
- Use a light grip so your forearms do the work.
- Exhale as your hands rise, inhale as they lower.
- Feel the stretch and pull on top of your forearm.
Common mistakes
- Too much weight cuts the range short. Drop the load and move through the full range.
- Forearms lift off the thighs or bench. Anchor your forearms firmly before you lift.
- Grip tightens and the forearm takes over. Hold the bar loosely in your fingers.
