Reverse Lunge
- Beginner

- Gym
The reverse lunge steps one foot backward into a split stance and lowers you down under control, working one leg at a time. It trains the quads, glutes and hamstrings together while challenging your balance. Beginners use it at home or in the gym for reps, as a warmup, a main move or a finisher.

How to
- Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart.
- Step one foot back and lower that knee toward the floor.
- Keep your front knee over your toes, chest up.
- Push through the front foot to return, then alternate.
Form cues
- Drive through your front heel to stand up.
- Inhale as you step back, exhale as you rise.
- Keep your eyes forward, not down at your feet.
Common mistakes
- Front knee drifts inward toward the midline. Push the knee out in line with your toes.
- Torso leans forward over the front leg. Keep your chest lifted and stacked over your hips.
- Back knee slams into the floor. Lower with control and tap the floor lightly.
