Cable Lateral Raise
- Pro
- Beginner
- Gym
The cable lateral raise stands you side-on to a low pulley, handle in your far hand, lifting your arm straight out to shoulder height. The cable keeps constant tension on the side delts through the whole arc, unlike a dumbbell that goes light at the bottom. Beginners use it in the gym, for weight and reps as a main lift or a finisher.

How to
- Stand side-on to a low pulley, handle in your far hand.
- Keep a slight elbow bend.
- Raise your arm out to shoulder height.
- Lower slowly against the cable, then switch sides.
Form cues
- Lead the lift with your elbow, not your hand.
- Keep your torso still, not leaning away.
- Exhale as you raise your arm out.
Common mistakes
- Shoulder shrugs up during the raise. Keep your shoulder pressed down and back.
- Body leans away to swing the weight up. Keep your torso still and lift with your arm.
- Arm swings past shoulder height. Stop the raise level with your shoulder.
