Low Lunge (Anjaneyasana)

Low lunge is a kneeling yoga hold, one foot stepped forward with the knee stacked over the ankle while the back knee rests on the floor. Sinking your hips forward stretches the quads and glutes on the back leg. Beginners use it as a warmup, cooldown or recovery flow, held for time on each side.

How to
- Step one foot forward and lower your back knee to the floor.
- Stack your front knee over the ankle.
- Sweep your arms overhead and lift your chest.
- Sink your hips gently forward, hold, then switch sides.
Form cues
- Square your hips toward the front of the mat.
- Breathe slowly and relax through your shoulders.
- Keep your front knee tracking over your toes.
Common mistakes
- Front knee drifts forward past the toes. Step your front foot out a bit farther.
- Hips twist open to one side. Square both hip points toward the front.
- Lower back arches sharply as arms lift. Lengthen up through your spine, not back.
