Jump rope spins a rope under your feet with quick wrist turns while you hop just high enough to clear it. The repeated small jumps load your calves and quads for power and your forearms for the constant wrist spin. Beginners use it at home or in functional training for steady cardio sets or short interval bursts.

How to
- Hold the handles at hip height, elbows close.
- Spin the rope with your wrists, not your arms.
- Jump just high enough to clear the rope.
- Land softly on the balls of your feet and keep the rhythm.
Form cues
- Stand tall with your core braced, not slouched.
- Look straight ahead, not down at your feet.
- Breathe in a steady rhythm as you jump.
Common mistakes
- Feet land flat and heavy each jump. Bend your knees and land quietly, not flat-footed.
- Arms swing wide instead of staying still. Keep your elbows close and let wrists spin the rope.
- Jump height creeps up higher than needed. Keep jumps low, just enough to clear the rope.
