Cable Crunch
- Beginner
- Gym
The cable crunch has you kneel below a high pulley, rope held beside your head, and curl your ribs down toward your hips while your hips stay still. Adding cable resistance loads the abs more heavily than a bodyweight crunch. Beginners use it in the gym, for weight and reps as a main lift or a finisher.

How to
- Kneel below a high pulley holding the rope beside your head.
- Keep your hips still, crunch your ribs toward your pelvis.
- Squeeze your abs hard at the bottom.
- Return slowly until your abs stretch.
Form cues
- Move from your ribs, not your arms.
- Exhale hard as you curl down.
- Keep your head relaxed instead of pulling your neck.
Common mistakes
- Arms pull the rope instead of the abs. Keep your arms fixed and curl with your ribs.
- Hips rock back and forth. Keep your hips still through the whole rep.
- Range of motion stops short of a full crunch. Curl further down until your abs fully squeeze.
