Seated Calf Press (Machine)

  • Beginner
  • Gym

The seated calf press machine has you sit with legs extended and the balls of your feet on a platform, letting your heels drop before pressing the plate away through your toes. It isolates the calves through that ankle extension. Beginners use it in the gym for weight and reps, as a main lift or a finisher.

How to

  1. Sit with the balls of your feet on the platform, legs extended.
  2. Let your heels drop into a full stretch.
  3. Press through your toes as far as you can.
  4. Return slowly back into the stretch.

Form cues

  • Push evenly through the balls of both feet.
  • Pause briefly at the top of each press.
  • Exhale as you press the platform away.

Common mistakes

  • Heels bounce quickly out of the bottom stretch. Pause at the bottom before pressing back up.
  • The range of motion stays short and partial. Sink your heels all the way down first.
  • Knees bend and take over the press. Keep your legs extended and let calves do the work.
